2011-2012 Patrick Henry High School Auditions for 4th Period Wind Ensemble and Leadership

• Anyone wishing to be in the 4th Period Wind Ensemble must audition.
• Exceptions are bassoon, oboe, French Horn & baritone saxophone, unless demand exceeds capacity for those instruments as well.
• 2011-2012 11th graders that pass the audition but are scheduled into the 1st period band class due to Seminar schedule conflict will be allowed to perform with the 4th period band class on all opportunities.
• 2011-2012 10th graders will have the option to audition for the Wind Ensemble class.
• 2011-2012 9th graders will only be considered for placement in the 4th period Wind Ensemble under very extreme circumstances in which the student has demonstrated an extremely high level of achievement in the middle school band. An example of this would be a student considered because they made and placed very high in the California All-State and All-Southern Middle School Honor Bands.

Auditions start the week of May 2, 2011 will consist of:

1. Major scales up to and including 4 sharps and 4 flats in the key signature.  Your key will be asked for, not Concert key.  Percussionists will perform scales on mallet instruments.
2. Prepared music from the current music literature being worked on.
3. Prepared music provided by Mr. Kalal.
4. Sight-reading music literature from medium to difficult levels.
5. 2011 S2P2 grading period citizenship grades.
6. Students will need to demonstrate the abilities related to entering a learning environment where difficult and challenging music, music Grades 4 - 6, will be studied and mastered.

7 flutes (1 piccolo)
3 oboes (1 English horn)
6 clarinets
2 bass clarinets
2 bassoons
4 alto saxophones
2 tenor saxophones
1 baritone saxophone
6 trumpets
4 French horns
4 trombones
2 baritones
2 tubas
5 percussion
